My Life in Photos

This year has been an incredible whirlwind! I’ve started and finished school, started interning at my favorite skincare studio in Portland! Feel free to follow me on Instagram to keep up to date. I won’t be doing these types of posts very often, but I just wanted to take you along on this journey I’ve had the past few months. Enjoy!

First of all, I started my Esthiology program! This is a screenshot from Drew’s Snapchat.

And made some amazing friends..

Drew and I went to the coast in the winter and it was WARM. If you’re ever in Seaside, check out the Ashore Hotel in Seaside. It was a spontaneous pick, but it turned out to be super comfortable. (Major bonus: It was a 3 minute walk to the beach!)

One of my instructors made my dream come true by giving me eyelash nails.

I began interning front desk at The Portland Girl, my favorite skin care studio in Portland! This was me at The Portland Girl 1 year anniversary party. Watch my video here!

We saw one of my very favorite bands, Geographer! It was surreal and amazing.

I had the opportunity to do makeup for our Evening for Earth fashion show! It was a bit hard to see with all of the dim lighting, but I gave her a super golden glow.

Me and some of my Aveda besties all fancy for the event.IMG_0212 (1)

Drew and I went on a ridiculous hike. And I got a new tattoo!

And most recently, I clocked out at Aveda for the very last time last Thursday. SO MANY EMOTIONS. School was great and all, but I’m going to miss my beauties most of all.

I really hope you enjoyed this mashup of photos from my life currently!

I’m becoming an Esthetician

I’m currently in the Esthetics program at The Aveda Institute Portland. How amazing is that? I’m taking this passion of mine and turning it into something I can do professionally to help more and more people! I get a lot of questions about why I enrolled in this program and I wanted to share a tiny portion of that with you. Of course, you may ask as many questions as you’d like–I’m an open book.

I have always been interested in beauty and skin care. I started a beauty blog a while ago ( which has given me an outlet to place my ideas, recommendations, and curiosities in the beauty field. It’s been fun! I discovered my favorite beauty brand Glossier and their motto is “Skin First, Makeup Second, Smile Always.” I loved that! So I began focusing on skin care rather than just makeup and it was so empowering. If you take care of your skin, you don’t need as many makeup products.

About 6 months ago I was approached by an owner of a sugaring/skin care studio and they said they loved my blog and offered me free services to check the place out. How could I resist?! So I went in and had such an amazingly inspiring facial, when I got home I gathered all of the skin care products I had in my cabinet and gave a facial to my husband! I loved the feeling of helping someone relax and feel amazing and see results.

At the same time, I had taken an interview at Aveda for a front desk retail position and the interviewer asked me how serious I was about starting school and really made me rethink my path. What was I waiting for? I wanted to begin my journey as a professional as soon as possible! So I traded my resume for a financial aid form and I was on my way to become an Aveda Institute Esthetician.
Seriously thank YOU, the reader, supporter, cheerleader, general amazing human being, for being on this ride with me. Thank you for suggesting things I should try, things I should look more into and of course thank you for your encouragement and wonderful words. I love you for that.

Until next time,

Forgot your makeup bag- No Worries. Here's your shopping guide (1)

Higher-end (Sephora, Ulta)

Face Primer

Tarte Clean Slate Poreless 12-Hr Perfecting Primer $31

I love the lightweight formula and it smells kind of like lemons!

Urban Decay Brightening & Tightening Complexion Primer Potion $31

Urban Decay Primers are heavy-duty-your-makeup-wont-move reliable.

Dior Glow Maximizer Primer $42

Okay, I know this stuff is quite expensive, but just go to Sephora and ask for a sample! It’s a 2-in-1 primer and highlighter! Seriously, your skin will thank you. Plus it smells heavenly! Oh Dior, you have my heart.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Foundation $36

Gorgeous texture, reliable staying-power, and really blendable!

I reeeally recommend you grab Benefit’s box set How to Look the Best At Everything  $32 (they sell it at Sephora) because it comes with an awesome travel sized Hello Flawless foundation, setting powder, two concealers and a guide on how to use those things. All for cheaper than the price of one regular sized foundation! Perfect for plane travel and SO worth the money.

Eyeshadow Primer

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer $20

It is super important to put on primer before you put on eyeshadow, but sometimes I use regular face primer for my eyes too.

NARS Smudgeproof Eyeshadow Base $25

I’ve done a few tests where I wear one eye with this primer and one without and it is crazy! At the end of the day, the side without the primer showed blotchy, creasy eyeshadow, and the side WITH the primer looked amazing! I’m sold on primers.

afterlight (15)

Stila “Kitten” Eyeshadow  $18 very pretty shimmery nude pink color.

Urban Decay “Sin” Eyeshadow $19 champagne shimmer, and it makes your eyes just pop!

Stila Stay All Day Liquid Eyeliner $22 (Sephora has sample size of this if you ask) Really easy to make a cat eye! And it doesn’t budge.

Urban Decay 24/7 Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner $19

Like I have said before, Urban Decay works wonders for staying power. Not sure what they put in their eye products, but those suckers work. It does have a shiny finish when it dries.

If you’re afraid of liquid eyeliner (can be scary sometimes), they also have a gorgeously creamy 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil! $20

NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil  $26 or NARS Lipstick $27

This stuff has a smooth velvety (duh) texture! And it lasts for a really long time. It’s luxurious.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lip Stick $20

This stuff is EXTREMELY awesome for staying power! Seriously, you just put it on, blot it, let it dry with your lips kind of separated and it will stay on for hours and hours (and hours), even through eating and drinking!

Drugstore (Target, Ulta)

Face Primer

CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Primer $12.99

I haven’t tried this one personally (I use higher-end ones normally) but it has amazing reviews!

Honest Company Face and Body Moisturizer $9.49

I completely swear by this moisturizer! It is refreshing and super important to have a moisturizer under your makeup for the best application. Skin lives for hydration!

Sonia Kashuk Hidden Agenda Palette $10.49 or Maybelline Fit Me Concealer $5.49

Both of these are great! The Sonia Kashuk is thicker, kind of like a paste and the Maybelline one is more liquidy. Both are great but the Sonia Kashuk concealer stays put better plus has better pigmentation if you want to cover dark circles. The green square in that quad is for covering redness, just fyi, not for aliens. 👽

Rimmel 25hr Lasting Finish with Comfort Serum $6.99

LOVE LOVE LOVE this stuff. Honestly, you don’t even need a face primer with this one because it has it’s own staying serum built in. Just set it with a powder (I like the Maybelline Dream Wonder $7.59 (tinted, so you can also use it as a foundation if you prefer powder) or Neutrogena Shine Control $12.19 (this is translucent so you can keep putting it on and it wont look cakey.)

e.l.f. Studio Contouring Blush & Bronzing Powder  $3.04

Yeah, That’s right. THREE DOLLARS. This stuff is a great alternate to those fancy kits. Just letting you know though, the blush is a little sparkly, but hey. It’s dang gorgeous. And a complete steal!

Blending Sponge $4.99

Just get this wet and you can apply your liquid foundation in a revolutionary way! It blends nicely and almost has an airbrushed look. Just make sure you really wring it out so you don’t water down your foundation!

L’oreal Carbon Black Lineur Intense Felt Tip Liquid Eyeliner $8.99

This is a great alternative to a high end eyeliner because for the most part it stays on your eyes without moving. Not in the same way that the high-end ones work though, but again, a good cheap alternative!IMG_1162

I haven’t really found a brand of eyeshadow that I am absolutely crazy about (I gravitate toward my high-end palettes) but if you use an eyeshadow primer, you will be just fine with almost any shadow at the drugstore.

Maybelline Falsies Push Up Drama $9.49 or L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara $5.89

Now here is where I get super excited about drugstore products! These two mascaras are absolutely incredible. They both give you really full voluminous lashes.

Fun fact: The L’Oreal Voluminous Original was the first mascara I ever purchased!

NYX soft matte lipstick $5.99

Creamy, non-drying formula that smells like cupcakes! How great is that?

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm Stain $6.89

This one has amazing pigmentation and it goes on smoothly! It truly is matte and very pretty.

Well that’s all for now folks! I hope this guide has been helpful for you. There have been many times where I’ve found myself staring blankly in the makeup aisle without a helping hand so I hope this comes to mind when you are looking for new products to try!

Thanks for reading!
